"This is a nice surprise" - Lucinda Brand shocks herself with dominant victory at Dublin World Cup

Lucinda Brand fully confirmed her return to form with a scintillating victory in Dublin, the 50th of her elite cyclocross career and her first UCI World Cup win since January 2022.

“It was a big battle after the start, but after the difficult and technical section I had a small lead. I immediately wanted to put the pressure on, although it was difficult to keep a gap, but it still seemed to break," said the Baloise - Trek Lions star in her post-race interview. “I felt super strong.”

Although the weather wasn't the best, the actual course was perfect for Brand. “It's a lot of pushing. I like that and was also able to get into a flow," she explains. "But it was also only possible to win with good legs. And if I have the strength, punching goes well for me. Even though it remains difficult, I was still able to recover along the way.”

With Ceylin del Carmen Alvarado and Zoe Backstedt completing the podium, Brand admits surprise at her level. Especially considering she was one of the few to complete a Saturday/Sunday double. “I had hoped for this, but certainly did not expect this. Certainly not that I would win this way," she concludes. "I especially hoped to fight until the end, then this is a nice surprise."
