Marianne Vos underwent an illiac artery surgery in August which ended her season on the road and required a lot of recovery time. However, the Dutch veteran's recovery has been faster than expected and Jumbo-Visma admit that she could return to racing soon.
"She is on her way back after quite a major operation. The idea was not to ride cross this winter, but things are actually going very well now. So who knows, but the focus is on the road," Jumbo-Visma coach Lars Boven told In de Leiderstrui following the X2O Badkamers Trofee race in Kortrijk.
Boven talked in a location where Vos won her only race in the 2022-2023 season, as she raced with the rainbow stripes once again. Vos is a legend of the sport, but over the last year has put her focus on the road. Whilst she is currently not having the same results as she did in the peak of her career, the 36-year old continues to be one of the most prominent riders in the peloton.
"We know Marianne's capabilities and fortunately we make great use of them," he concludes. The Dutch team is set to have it's first major training camp now in December and it should include both men's and women's teams. Vos will team up with Fem van Empel, her successor and reigning World Champion in the discipline.
