The
Superprestige event held in Diegem saw a standout performance from 18-year-old
David Haverdings, who placed ninth among the top male competitors.
During the previous season, Haverdings exhibited exceptional talent in the junior category, achieving victories in an impressive 21 out of 26 cross races he participated in. This impressive performance caught the attention of the Baloise Trek Lions team, who saw potential in Haverdings and offered him a position on their roster. "I'm having a great time with the team. I hope I can stay with the team for a long time and develop quietly," the Dutchman told WielerFlits.
Despite his impressive track record in the junior category, Haverdings has found the transition to the elite level to be a formidable challenge. So far, he has been unable to secure a podium finish."It's not always easy, though. When things are going well, that's nice. If it goes less, that's also okay. I can always talk well about it with people like Sven.”
He reflects on his performance in Diegem. “I don't quite realise it myself. I only started on the fourth row of the grid, which is definitely not optimal. So on the first lap I was still very far back. I rode at my own pace, and so I was able to ride from wheel to wheel. In addition, I also made efforts at the right time, which kept me moving up.I had a really good day,” said Haverdings.
He is looking forward to competing in the National Championships and the World Championships."Especially the NK, I do want to go for that. The World Cup too, of course, but the NK is more realistic. On the other hand, I don't want to put too much pressure on it. So in advance, I don't want to put a position on it either. That's difficult and unnecessary, we'll see," concluded Haverdings.
