Puck Pieterse added
Superprestige Diegem to her list of achievements. The Dutchwoman was in the lead from the beginning and maintained it until the end of the race.
She took an aggressive approach and took the lead in the first lap. She and
Ceylin del Carmen Alvarado rode together for some time before Pieterse decided to create a gap. It was
Shirin van Anrooij who came close to challenging her in the third lap, but she also failed.
“I did notice in the third lap that Shirin was getting really close, and then I did start to stress a bit. I was also in doubt whether to hold back a bit and then ride on together or to try again,' explains Pieterse.
Ultimately, she opted to keep her lead, which proved to be a wise move. "That was my part. I noticed I had a gap after that. Then I didn't hesitate any more and went full speed into the last two rounds. I couldn't cycle the sandpit a few times and felt Shirin could. I know she is very good in the sand. I was, fortunately, able to rectify that difference.”
In her opinion, the victory was a result of a nice start. “Not really, normally in this cross groups stay together a bit more. But sometimes I feel so much like it, then I start a bit too fast. You suddenly have a gap, then you have to keep going,” Pieterse concluded.
