Niels Vandeputte has taken a thrilling win at the X2O Trofee in Lille after a thrilling battle with Joris Nieuwenhuis.
With a group of select riders holding the front of the race early doors, Joris Nieuwenhuis, Lars van der Haar, Niels Vandeputte and Joran Wyseure were locked together after three laps. After a mistake from van der Haar and a somersault from Nieuwenhuis however, only the two Belgians remained in the lead at the half way point.
Credit to Nieuwenhuis though, the Dutch champion didn't quit after his crash, and with two laps to go, he was back in contact. All 3 leaders starting the final lap together. In a thrilling finale, it was Vandeputte who took the win from Nieuwenhuis with Wyseure rounding out the podium in third.
