The first training session of the winter is in the legs for Mathieu van der Poel as he prepares to begin his cyclocross season.
van der Poel's father Adrie shared a number of photos to social media of Mathieu and his brother David training on their cyclocross bikes in the woods. The pair are yet to ride a cross as of yet this season although the organizer of the Hulst World Cup has said he expects Mathieu van der Poel to be there.
The cyclocross World Champion in 2021, van der Poel's arrival on the crosses could mean disappointment for fellow Dutchman Joris Nieuwenhuis who may miss out due to UCI World Cup rules only allowing the Dutch selection to consist of a maximum of fourteen riders.
