Lucinda Brand was a prime candidate for yesterday's Cyclocross World Cup race in Tabor, but has had to watch it from afar as the day previous she suffered a crash which has sidelined her from competition for a few weeks.
Brand crashed whilst doing a recon of the Czech course this Saturday, and has broken her right metacarpal bone. This fracture is in a sensitive area that riders require a lot of stain during CX racing and training, and will have her out of competition for indefinite time.
I will have some challenging weeks ahead," Brand said in a social media post. "Monday surgery and then working hard to come back in competition as soon as it’s justified. Making it before [European Championships] seems impossible... let’s see how things go."
The crash has came in a particularly bad time, with Brand likely being forced to skip at least two World Cup rounds, the European Championships and the start of both Superprestige and X20 Badkamers Trofee. It is yet to be known for how long she will be out.
