Felipe Orts continues to break new ground in the 2024 - 2025 cyclocross season. After coming second at the European Championships, the Spaniard has now claimed a World Cup podium for the first time in his career in Dublin.
After being there or thereabouts throughout the race in Ireland on Sunday afternoon, Orts entered the final lap as part of an elite, six-man lead group also containing Michael Vanthourenhout, Eli Iserbyt, Toon Aerts, Pim Ronhaar and Joran Wyseure. With none of them able to create a real advantage, the fight for victory went all the way to a sprint finish, in which, Vanthourenhout prevailed ahead of Aerts, with Orts completing the podium.
“It's crazy to be on the podium in the second World Cup race," Orts reflected with delight in his post-race interview afterwards. "In the last corners I came back and, in the sprint, sprint for the podium. I'm very happy!”
