Thibau Nys did not get further than sixth place in the Boom Superprestige on Saturday. The Belgian from Baloise Trek Lions is still struggling a bit with his back and is therefore unable to fully utilize his potential. He will race in Flamanville on Sunday and then take a break from cross, he tells In de Leiderstrui.
"It didn't go well. It wasn't super bad, but I did feel my back again," the rider started. "I didn't really have the strength I would have liked. So it wasn't great. I don't know exactly what causes it."
Nys thus looks forward to do some quality road training in Spain with Lidl-Trek. "Everything just has to be right, I'm really looking forward to training again. I'm going to train very hard there and then try to get some rest before the cyclo-cross in Namur. I really need to completely reset my back and get in two more good training weeks."
Plaster on the wound: teammate Joris Nieuwenhuis won in Boom. "Joris is a top guy. It is his second race of the season on Belgian soil and it is super impressive how he rides around here. Joris is a super pleasant guy within the team, you can't say anything bad about that. He complements us perfectly and is an incredibly good link within the team."
