Most cyclo-cross riders have already kicked off their season some two weeks ago, but Belgian champion Sanne Cant, who enjoyed a bit of rest after tough road season, will only start this weekend during the Overijse World Cup.
"Because the scars are not allowed to come into contact with sunlight, I still wear protection. Other than that I experience little inconvenience," Cant assures in an interview with WielerFlits that the injuries suffered in Paris-Roubaix crash, which required some 60 stitches in her face, are not limiting her.
"It may have seemed like a very serious crash, and it was, but I actually didn't miss any training because of it. After Paris-Roubaix the intention was to take a rest period. Normally I would go on holiday, but it fell into the water," Cant laughs. "Furthermore, I was able to complete everything as planned up to and including the World Cup in Glasgow. So I'm quite happy with the summer I had."
"I will mainly focus on the Saturday crosses. The World Cups are a bit too ambitious to compete for victory, but on Saturday you will also find great televised cross-country events. I want to be among the first there," she unveils her ambitions for this winter. Extra focus will be put on Belgian Championships.
