The cycling equipment manufacturer Lapierre, which has made a name for themselves within the cycling world over the past 22 years of cooperation with Groupama-FDJ, announced on Friday that it would end its partnership with the French team at the end of 2023.
"It’s a long chapter that ends today with the Groupama-FDJ professional cycling team," said Dorian Tabeau, director of Lapierre in a press release. "The brand has grown and evolved alongside the riders and the technical staff during all these years spent alongside them. Beyond the numerous victories, we will remember from this partnership that together we have succeeded in building something unique in the World Tour universe."
Marc Madiot, manager of Groupama-FDJ, adds: "We will always remember our great performances on Lapierre bikes. During these two decades we co-developed some of the most efficient bikes in the world and it was a wonderful adventure, full of success. We respect Lapierre's choice to end the partnership. Like every company, Lapierre must make strategic choices. The end of this collaboration is an illustration of this and we are respectful of this decision."
While there was no public announcement yet, the word is that the traditional French team will transfer to Willier bikes for the 2024 season. Details of this deal are not yet known either.
