The Pauwels Sauzen-Bingoal rider
Eli Iserbyt finished second in the
Superprestige Gullegem. He gave his best but was no match for the winner
Wout van Aert.
"In the beginning, it was a bit of a search for me," he said in the post-race interview. He continues, "I was dawdling a bit and had to leave a few metres each time."
Iserbyt failed to counter Van Aert's attack on the fourth lap. “Just when Wout accelerated, halfway through the cross, I didn't have the power on the power strips. He rode impressively through the mud there, though," said Iserbyt.
Iserbyt had to change his tires several times during the race due to the slippery course conditions. Considering he was up against the Belgian champion, he is pleased with his second-place finish. "I changed profiles once from coarse to even coarser and from soft to very soft. It was a bit like riding on brown soap. But that's something I do like to do. It was also a super crowd, so I did enjoy today,” concluded Iserbyt.
