Another success for
Wout van Aert as he adds the
Superprestige Gullegem to his list of victories. This is his seventh victory of the season.
"To create a gap, I did have to go flat out," Van Aert said in the post-race interview. He continues, "It had become very technical because of the rain. I would have liked to stay in the wheels a bit longer, but it was actually much harder there. At one point, I felt I was doing better if I could draw my own lines. Then I tried to pull through."
Van Aert’s decision to ride on low tire pressure proved beneficial once again, as he had a strong start on the muddy race course. "Everyone had started on the heaviest tread. The rain was solid enough before the start to choose that tread. I still dropped a bit in tyre pressure, but there really are no tyres for such slippery ground," explains the Belgian.
The Belgian rider is enjoying a remarkable season, with seven victories in the ten cross races he has participated in. "The last two weeks went really well. I had a few nice wins. Especially in the Superprestige, like the race in Diegem, it was always hard for me to win. But this winter, I succeeded. Here in Gullegem, I also win for the first time, I'm very happy with that," concluded van Aert.
