A week after returning from doping ban, Toon Aerts ends cyclocross with possible broken nose and concussion in brutal crash

Last week Toon Aerts returned to racing in cyclocross after a two-year doping suspension, and showed tremendous form. He looked to end the short season on a high today in Oostmalle, but suffered a crash that has left him badly injured.

The Belgian rider reportedly crashed during today's race in a fast section and was still hit by a few riders from behind. However Aerts crashed on his head, and is said to have possibly suffered a broken nose and concussion. A brutal reminder of how difficult the sport can be, as Aerts had just returned to racing after a very lengthy issue.
