Finn Fisher-Black is undoubtedly having the best start to a season in his professional career so far. After he finished third overall at the AlUla Tour earlier this month, he went on to win the Muscat Classic as well as a stage of the Tour of Oman, where he is currently in the overall lead of the race going into the final stage to Green Mountain.
Given his early season success, it may come as some surprise that he is currently not scheduled to be riding a Grand Tour this season. Fisher-Black made his Grand Tour debut at last year’s Vuelta a España, where he mainly rode as a domestique for his team leader Juan Ayuso, but still managed to pick up a second place finish on stage 16 behind Jonas Vingegaard.
In an interview with WielerFlits at the Tour of Oman, the UAE Team Emirates rider said “I have nothing on the programme this year for a Grand Tour. I am more going for results at races like here. For sure I would love to do a Grand Tour again in the future. I think that I really grew a lot in the Vuelta and learnt a lot about myself”.
On why he is not riding a three-week stage race this season, he explained “with this team there is a lot of strength in the Grand Tours already and if I want to go for the opportunities myself then I have to come to different races, like here at the Tour of Oman, so I can get my chance and grow as my own rider”.
