Roglic's arrival transformed Bora-Hansgrohe into a construction site as the Slovenian will necessarily request a strong support team around himself, of which Matteo Sobrero could be a part. His new coach in the German team, Paolo Artuso, spoke to Bici about Sobrero's plans, goals and ambitions for 2024.
"I've seen him twice, I still have to get a clear idea. I spoke with Pinotti who coached him, he gave me some clues. We want him to get some opportunities, but also to support the leaders. We are finalizing all the calendars. We would like Matteo to have his opportunities before Tirreno or Paris-Nice and then we could put him alongside Primoz. The idea is to balance the two parts."
"I already told him that we will have to divide the season in two. A first part up to Liège, in which the preparation will be more based on shorter efforts. After the Ardennes we will take a break and in the second part we will work more on endurance. I'm pushing in this direction."
"We will have to study the right approach. There can be two stage races, which can be Paris-Nice or Tirreno, then Catalunya or Basque. I would certainly take him to a nice high altitude camp in February with which we would be covered until the end of April. Then, if the bosses accept the program, he will return to the mountains to prepare for the Dauphiné and before the Tour he will do the Top Up Camp."
