The 2025
Tour de Romandie came to a close yesterday with
Remco Evenepoel powering to victory in the final time trial and João Almeida
securing the overall classification. For
Team Visma | Lease a Bike, the Swiss
stage race reflected much of their spring campaign so far, quiet in profile,
but rich in promise thanks to their young riders.
The team walked away with a memorable stage win thanks to
rising star
Matthew Brennan, who dominated the uphill finish in Fribourg on
Stage 1. And while the headlines may have gone to the sport’s more established
names, Visma's youngsters continued to make waves. Norwegian talent Jørgen
Nordhagen capped off a consistent week with an impressive time trial, finishing
13th overall in the general classification.
"The guys delivered a top performance again
today," said sports director Maarten Wynants
in a team press release. "With
a bit of luck Matthew finishes inside top ten (the number eight was one second
faster), but it's already great that they can join the big guns. Matthew and
Jørgen have once again shown a lot of potential."
While the team didn’t contest the yellow jersey, their
objectives were clearly met: stage success, development, and visibility.
"The White Jersey group held their own all week. But
also the other guys did well and were able to do their part. We fought for the
win every day and got a nice win with Matthew. Our week was more than
successful," Wynants concluded.
