Wilco Kelderman's departure from BORA-hansgrohe is painful. Nils Politt and Ralph Denk expressed the team's gratitude for the Dutchman and best wishes for the future.
"He brought a lot of experience to the team as a GC rider," Politt told WielerFlits. He shares his experiences, "Wilco is a good guest. I rode the 2021 Tour de France with him when he finished fifth. He is mentally very strong and was always focused. It's a shame he's 'going home.' That's how I can say it when he goes to Jumbo-Visma. We are losing a super good teammate with Wilco."
Kelderman was a crucial rider for BORA-hansgrohe, and he was responsible to place the team in the top ranks in GC. "He definitely brought experience to the team. Wilco always rode at a high level, but he only misses those one or two wins. But for the rest, he was always there in the top-10 or top-5," said Politt.
On the other hand, Politt is also eager to challenge Kelderman in the upcoming Tour de France, but it's not up to him to decide whether or not he will compete. "In recent years, the classics were my first goal. Then I took a break, and then the preparation for the Tour followed. I hope for the Tour again next year, of course. But the team decides, and when I know that, I will prepare," concluded Politt.
