UAE Team Emirates sign rider following Whoosh power data

Team UAE Emirates has signed a contract with Michael Vink. The New Zealander will ride for the team until 2024.

He earned the team's attention when he showed impressive results on the virtual cycling platform 'My Whoosh'. It is a free app designed for cyclists of all levels that is based in the UAE. This is his first WorldTour team. He previously raced for Continental team Bolton Equities Black Spoke.

Vink is very happy about this opportunity and plans to take advantage of it fully. “I’m extremely grateful to be given this opportunity with UAE Team Emirates. To be asked to be a part of such a great team is truly humbling and is something I plan to take full advantage of. This is the start of a new chapter in my career, and I can’t wait to see what I can do in the World Tour peloton,” said the New Zealand rider.

"We are very happy to welcome Michael to the team," said team manager Mauro Gianetti. "While he already achieved good results on the road in the past, we got more attention for him thanks to his performance on Whoosh. During the season, our riders use Whoosh, since, due to the weather, it is not always possible or practical to train outside. In some of these races, we often saw Michael's name appear at the top of the results. After that, the contact was quickly established," concluded Gianetti.
