VIDEO: Paris-Roubaix 2024 highlights; Mathieu van der Poel's 59-kilometer solo, Arenberg spectacle and more

This year's Paris-Roubaix was not the open race that it usually is every year, but nevertheless the cobbles of northern France always deliver some spectacle. We take a look at the race's highlights, which put on display Alpecin-Deceuninck's utter dominance from start to finish.

The Belgian team was in control from early on as soon as the race entered the first cobbled sector, with splits forming behind. The strong breakaway of 9 riders was caught with around 140 kilometers to go and it was only by pace that the peloton was reduced to a few dozen riders.

Mathieu van der Poel attacked at the Trouée d'Arenberg forming more of a split, but afterwards the team had Gianni Vermeersch follow a dangerous move by Stefan Küng and Nils Politt - who were eventually caught, but would alter form part of the chasing group to van der Poel himself when he attacked with 59 kilometers to go.

Effectively, the Dutchman won comfortably. Like last year, teammate Jasper Philipsen followed the wheels and then sprinted to second place, beating Mads Pedersen and Politt. Stefan Küng and Laurence Pithie of Groupama - FDJ were also part of the group but were dropped and crashed respectively.
