Gent Wevelgem 2024 came down to a thrilling finale as Mads Pedersen and Mathieu van der Poel entered the final kilometre locked together.
A sprint that on paper at least, was too close to call saw van der Poel have prime position on the back wheel of his rival. Pedersen decided to counter this by starting his sprint early and despite giving his all, the world champion wasn't quite able to come around as the Lidl-Trek star held on for his second career victory at Gent Wevelgem.
