Mathieu van der Poel has made a last-minute decision to start Scheldeprijs but not all as gone well for the Dutchman. He hasn't been attacked, but has had to clean up his helmet after a bird dropped a bomb on the Alpecin-Deceuninck rider.
The incident happened halfway through the Belgian classic. Seemingly it did not affect van der Poel but it made for some unusual and entertaining footage.
