VIDEO: Mathieu van der Poel attacks with 100 kilometers to go at Gravel World Championships

The Gravel World Championships are currently taking place in Leuven, Belgium; but a Dutchman is storming through. Mathieu van der Poel, with over 100 kilometers to the finish, is already attacking the race hard and only a few riders are in the vicinity.
A video captured by Belga's Greg Lenco on a small forest section perfectly showed van der Poel's attack, and creating a gap to a group of around 20 riders, half of which Belgian. This could potentially be a winning move, but even if not, it leaves us with some spectacular footage.

That said, this is an old story, been going on for a century, partly started by Belgian colonialism, enhanced by Tutsi/Hutu incompatibility and these cross-border incursions are ongoing since more than 60 years, in both directions. What the media also doesn’t explain is that it has little to do with countries, borders or even resources, it is basically exiled or expelled Rwandans fighting Rwanda using Congo as a base and sympathetic Congolese factions as support. The problem is somewhat a mix of Taiwan Kurdistan and Gaza so good luck sorting it out. - I love how Brexit can be used to blame everything now. Sure it has altered a few prices specifically but just in case news stops at the border, know that there is something so much bigger, it’s called a cost of living crises and it certainly isn’t confined to countries that decided to leave the EU, in fact, you’d have a hard time picking a country that hasn’t been affected similarly. Ironically, you’re probably now also paying more for the NHS that was supposed to benefit from Brexit, and for those agricultural goods that you wanted money back for. Still, the fact that people moan more about the cost of tIckets to go see some sport or a concert, dynamic pricing, subscriptions to entertainment, coupled with the figures of what is spent per person on porn, prostitution, gambling, drugs, alcohol, tobacco, plastic surgery, tattoos, etc. suggests to me that a large proportion of the cost of living crisis complaints are more down to a priority and budgeting crisis.Mistermaumau31-01-2025

- Technically speaking, this is government sponsored monopolies. If they didn't support the whole concept of "copywright", the price would be much lower. - Brexit! Another blow to the UK. We are no longer part of the union and everything has shot up in price. As Martin says the sponsors pay to have cycling on TV in Europe. We don't have that luxury in the UK of a nationaly popular sport, we have never been a cycling country - except possibly briefly when Wiggins won the tour.1stpastthepost30-01-2025
