It is not the first time such an incident has happened but on the 12th of May Peter Sagan was found to have been riding a scooter close to home in Monaco whilst drunk. The incident has caught on quite some criticism, for which the Slovakian now responds to.
"I am very sorry that I screwed up in a moment of weakness. I want to apologize to my family, my friends, my team, our sponsors and everyone who supported me. I am committed to learn from this mistake and becoming a better person in the future.," the former World Champion said in a video shared on Instagram.
The incident has led to him having a suspended prison sentence, and also being taken his driver's license temporarily. Whilst this is an incident that has happened already over a month ago and should not impact his preparation to the Tour de France, he has this weekend crashed in the final sprint of the Slovakian national championships.
Sagan is heading towards what is his 12th Tour de France as he looks to take his first win since 2019, as he leads TotalEnergies' ambitions.
