Esteban Chaves is the current Colombian road champion and his team, EF Education-EasyPost, has posted a spectacular video on its social networks in which the rider tells in detail how he experienced the race and what it means to him to be the new Colombian champion.
"I went to bed with a good feeling, thinking I could be part of the race the next day. Being part of the race and winning is a big difference," he commented smiling about the night before. The story was shared in a video from EF Education-EasyPost. The Colombian currently races with the national champion's jersey on great display at the Volta a Catalunya.
The best moment of the video comes when Chaves tells how he arrived at the finish and what he felt. Really emotional: "One kilometers from the finish line I looked back and there was no one there. At that moment I knew, this is mine. I crossed the finish line smiling and several feelings came at once, feelings that one can't explain. It was like, 'we did it, we really did it, it's real'. After that, about 2 seconds later, everyone rushed towards me."
"There were people screaming, people crying. It's unbelievable. It's nice to see how much passion people can have for the sport. It's incredible, it's a dream I've had since I was a kid," explained Chaves, perfectly describing how Colombians feel about cycling.
