VIDEO: Biniam Girmay received by thousands in euphoria in Eritrea

Biniam Girmay was already a sensation for African cycling and Eritrea but although it looked rather difficult, this season only got him to be more popular. The Intermarché - Wanty rider has returned to Eritrea following his Tour de France success with three stage wins and a green jersey, and was received by large and roaring crowds.

A video shared by the Belgian team shows just how many people made the trip to receive their new national hero. Girmay has a residence in Belgium where he stays throughout a lot of the season. After the Tour de France he remained in Europe, finalizing his preparation for the Olympic Games.

Although he didn't achieve major results his presence at the Olympics was still a popular one, but the home fans have not forgotten about the emotions he delivered during the Tour de France, and made that love felt in Asmara.
