With 37 kilometers to go on one of the many cobbled sections, in the group that was on the attack in the peloton most of the group went down including several of the main favourites of the race. Elisa Longo Borghini, Sanne Cant, Lorena Wiebes, Lucinda Brand, Elise Chabbey, Lotte Kopecky, Floortje Mackaij, Franziska Koch, Pfeiffeir Georgi and Kathrin Schweinberger were said to all be involved, either hitting the deck of being blocked by the incident.
