Groupama - FDJ's 19-year-old sensation, Lenny Martinez took the first professional win of his career in brilliant style at the Mont Ventoux Denivelé Challenge. Afterwards, he could barely believe what he'd done.
"I felt great emotions when I crossed the finish line," he said in a post-race interview. "I doubted for a while whether there wasn't another rider ahead, because I just couldn't believe I won. My first professional victory, at the top of Mont Ventoux, as a climber... It's a wonderful story."
Beating off competition from the likes of Michael Woods and Simon Carr, Martinez proved to have the best legs in the final straight and took the win. "I am very happy. We had to adapt after the course was shortened due to weather conditions. The deleted climb from Bédoin actually suits me even better," Martinez recaps.
"But that doesn't matter anymore," he continues. “I waited, instead of attacking. I wanted to check my effort and when I saw the last corner I gave everything I had left. That was enough."
