Caleb Ewan may be reaching the final stages of his career, the 'Pocket Rocket' has been struggling to get the same results over the past few years and as his relationship with Lotto Dstny deteriorated significantly, he is said to be considering retirement from pro cycling.
This is reported by Het Nieuwsblad. At the Tour de France a very public clash took place between Ewan's management and team CEO Sébastien Heulot, with open criticism of Ewan's mentality in the race after he abandoned on stage 13. "You don't get out of the Tour that way," he said at the time. "He just hung his head. In a way I can't say a good word about. A real champion lifts his team, he doesn't do this."
Ewan was to have resumed competition in recent weeks but due to the birth of his child he has postponed it. His season is likely not over and it is said that within Lotto Dstny there is the availability to have Ewan throughout his final year of contract - 2024.
However it is said that from Ewan's side the situation has not improved at all. Rumours within the peloton suggest he wants to retire and that he is no longer having the motivation to continue in the sport. At the Tour, he finished twice on the podium of sprint stages.
