It was a dramatic day at the
Giro d'Italia where lots of riders crashed and a few were forced to abandon. However surprisingly, that was barely the most shocking thing about the stage. In a video now shared by Intermarché - Wanty, it has been revealed that protestors have attempted to block the road and cause a crash only mere kilometers away from the finish line in Napoli.
In the coastal run-in to the finish, with a bunch sprint about to happen, it was possible to see in the TV broadcast the presence of protestors moving on the road. However it was unclear what exactly was happening, and ultimately it seemed to have no effect on the race. But this was not the case actually, as the two riders that formed the day's breakaway were directly harmed.
Whilst they avoided a crash, the shocking moment in which two protestors tried to put security strips and fabric on Taco van der Hoorn and Enzo Paleni who were in direct contention to take the stage win. They were slowed down and somehow avoided the worst, but the clip has caused immediate outrage on social media due to the shocking nature of the act.
No place for that here.
Of course there is a place for that here.
