Pope Leo XIV will visit the Giro d'Italia peloton at the start of stage 21 in Vatican City

This Giro d'Italia will be sanctified by the new Pope Leo XIV himself. The American with Peruvian citizenship will greet the peloton on Sunday during the final stage that takes off from Vatican City as a tribute to late Pope Francis.
The new pontiff thus continues to give great prominence to sports, following private meetings with Italian tennis superstar Jannik Sinner, and with Napoli, the Italian football prime division Serie A champions. Although Pope Leo XIV is not the least biased, he certainly wouldn't mind for if there was a Latin American winner of this Giro d'Italia with Mexican Isaac del Toro and Ecuadorian Richard Carapaz seemingly main contenders.
