Both Joao Almeida and Adam Yates will have something to prove at Tour de Suisse after a forgettable spring. The Portuguese was struggling with illness and only finished 9th in Catalunya and 11th at Paris-Nice. On the other hand Yates entered spring strongly with Tour of Oman victory, but a concussion at UAE Tour effectively ended his spring.
During the eight days in Switzerland, the pair will have a unique opportunity to show sport directors that they deserve at the very least protected role at Tour de France next to obvious leader Tadej Pogacar.
"We’re just coming off a big block of training in Sierra Nevada and now this is the last race before the Tour de France. I’m feeling pretty good, it’s been an up and down season so far for me but hopefully after a good block of altitude training I can be back close to my best. It’s a tough race with a lot of hard mountain finishes so it should suit us well and we’ll be aiming to give the GC a good go," Yates said in a press release.
