Tour de France Femmes 2024 Presentation: Rotterdam start, trip to Liege and climax atop the infamous Alpe d'Huez

The presentations of the Tour de France and the Tour de France Femmes are taking place today in Paris and the reveal of the course for the women's Maillot Jaune battle is an extremely exciting one.

Starting in the homeland of the reigning winner, Demi Vollering, Rotterdam will host the Grand Depart having previously hosted the start of the Tour de France back in 2010. The day after the Olympic Games in Paris come to an end, the Tour de France Femmes gets underway in the Netherlands on Monday August 12.

The seven-day stage race starts with an expected sprint finish, from Rotterdam to The Hague. The next day there are two stages on the program. Firstly there is a morning stage taking the riders from Dordrecht to Rotterdam and in the afternoon there is an individual time-trial in the latter city.

After a trip to the Valkenburg and Liege, the race reaches it's climax on one of cycling's most infamous climbs, Alpe d'Huez. This famous climb (13.2 km at 8%) in the Alps with its 21 hairpin bends is the culmination of the queen stage of the Tour de France Femmes. It is the first time that the Tour de France for women has visited the Alps.
