Tom Boonen stunned by Lotte Kopecky's action at Tour of Flanders: "I don't even understand how it could occur to you to do that"

In Cycling Club Wattage, the Tour of Flanders of World champion Lotte Kopecky was once again thoroughly analyzed. One particular action in particular left commentators Tom Boonen and Ine Beyen in disbelief.

5 kilometers before the Koppenberg, the world champion and defending champion drops down to the SD Worx - Protime team car. Kopecky is given a water bottle and a load of gels. "Can't someone else do that in her place?" asks Beyen.

"I don't even understand how it could occur to you to do that," says Boonen. "You are world champion and have already won so many top races. I just don't understand it."

Boonen would have handled it differently. "There are plenty of riders around her who probably also have gels with them. They don't even have to be teammates. Those gels are often just handed out to each other."
