Tim Wellens was able to resume his training one month after his fall at Ronde van Vlaanderen, the Belgian reports via his social media. The rider of UAE Team Emirates was the biggest victim of the mass crash caused by Filip Maciejuk in Ronde van Vlaanderen.
Wellens says on Facebook that he can enjoy cycling again. "I'm happy to be back on the bike in full training mode," he said on Tuesday, exactly one month after his crash in the Tour of Flanders, with a photo of himself in the sun.
The Belgian broke his collarbone in several places during an a mass fall and only watched as his leader Tadej Pogacar also fell later that month at Liège-Bastogne-Liège. The Slovenian broke his wrist. Both are set to ride the Tour de France with the common goal of obtaining the yellow jersey.
Wellens will normally make his comeback in the Tour de Suisse, which starts June 11 in Einsiedeln. His capacity as a puncheur could be crucial for Pogacar at the Grand Boucle in the more explosive stages including the opening weekend.
