Patrick Lefevere, the boss of the Soudal Quick-Step team, sent an email to his workers (riders, staff...) in reference to the rumors published in the press about the possible merger of the Belgian team with Jumbo-Visma.
The mail was private and it was requested not to be leaked, but GCN colleagues have got hold of it. Below you have the content. "I am writing to you in relation to messages you will have seen recently in the media," Lefevere commented. "I am aware that this has caused some uncertainty, for which I apologize."
"There have been constant conversations with different parties over the last few months, because I was open to talk to anyone who I felt could invest in our team and help us improve. That has never been a secret," the Soudal Quick-Step director continued.
"Contrary to reports, there are no concrete projects or plans at this time. If this changes, you will be informed. In the meantime, I ask you all to continue to show the team spirit and togetherness that characterizes our team. We are at the end of a long season, but we still have several objectives to make it another unforgettable year for the team," ended the email leaked by GCN.
Now makes sense the exodus of the riders... Tim, Bartoli, Ballerini, Jackobsen....
Don't know if it makes sense of it, but the conventional wisdom has been that those departures have been about overhauling the team to suit Remco. Lefevere doesn't have the budget to run a major GT squad *and* his traditional classics squad(s), and in any case some of his old guard -- Alaphilippe, Jacobsen, Declerq, etc. -- is past its prime. So a major change of some sort was in order. Whether there is more to it than that is something I guess we'll soon know.
and Van Tirsh...and... makes sense to the point so many leave and only Landa got in.. Understand what you saying... had the same thought but he still need an team for the classics...
