Isaac del Toro confirmed one more day that he deserves to wear the maglia rosa showing himself as a very strong climber and even putting Primoz Roglic under serious pressure on two separate occasions.
After the race, he spoke about the attack he made on the last climb, to which
Juan Ayuso let the wheel go and subsequently opened up a gap between the pink jersey and the two riders that are considered the two main favourites for the overall win.
"I told Rafa [Majka] but in the end when I went I didn't realize that the team wasn't on my wheel, I did it without thinking. Then when I realized that I had gone with other GC rivals I decided to stop and that we should all go together which was the best thing for the team."
The Mexican continues to shrug off his chances of winning the Giro. "No, we'll see day by day, but not yet." With a humble speech as always, he repeated that he is proud to be in UAE surrounded by his teammates.
"The team has been incredible, I take everything with professionalism, I can't believe I'm on the bus with them, it's amazing to be here." After declaring that he is not the "smartest" cyclist, he assured that he does not think about the beyond but goes "day by day" and trying to work in UAE together in the smartest way possible: "We work as a team, as smart as possible, we use these tools to go forward, not with one, but with so many guys, I am very happy, but my teammates should be with me too".
Little by little he confesses that he's starting to believe he's wearing pink: "I'm happy, day by day I'm realizing that I'm the maglia rosa. I can't believe it"
However, he does not believe it at all and assured that he goes day by day and without believing yet that he will win the Giro: "It's nice to be in this position, we'll see what the future holds. I think confidence is very dangerous, you have to go day by day".
A Colombian journalist tried to praise him and he quickly wanted to make it clear that he does not trust neither the critics nor the compliments: "You are not as bad, but not as good as they say you are, so I don't like to believe them, just be a normal person".
