Switzerland win at Mixed Relay "very important for our country" European champion Stefan Bissegger says

With only three seconds of advantage at the finish over Italy, it is fair to say every single second counted for Switzerland in the Mixed Relay TTT. Stefan Bissegger was part of the winning team, taking his time-trialing skills to provide the nation with a whole six gold medals.

“Our strategy was to leave as soon as possible and then maintain this high pace. Fortunately we could count on the engine [Stefan] Küng, we could hide behind him," the European time-trial champion said at the finish. "He was very strong today. The women also had a special strategy and it worked perfectly.

"We all rode a good time trial. This is very important for our country," he concluded. The country holds in him the European colours, and was close to obtaining the rainbow jersey with Küng at the individual time-trial. Bissegger had a more modest performance, but today his power served a greater purpose, as his five teammates have all won a world title due to their collaboration.

Bissegger has hence taken another title home, keeping the speed alongside Küng and Mauro Schmid in the men's lap, and has additionally added 100 UCI points to EF Education-EasyPost's tally which may prove crucial at the end of the season for their maintenance objectives.
