Stefan Küng lost wedding ring in his European Championship time trial crash

Stefan Küng crossed the finish line of the European Championship time trial badly hurt. A concussion and several fractures were some of the consequences of his hard crash. But that day also caused other suffering for the Swiss: he has since lost his wedding ring. According to the rider, the ring was still on his finger during the finish. But is that correct?

"The wedding ring is gone. In the images of the finish I still have it on my finger, but when the plaster was removed in St. Gallen it was no longer there," Küng told SRF. "I have called around and talked to the doctors, so far without success. I can't remember if the ring was possibly cut out in the hospital in the Netherlands because of my swollen fingers. My memory is failing me here."

It is not surprising that Küng cannot recall much from that unfortunate day, but after the work of an internet sleuth, it appears that he lost his ring during the crash anyway. In a video of the moment where the Swiss goes down through the fences, you can see something that looks like a ring bouncing on the ground.

It has been almost two months since the day of the fall, but the 29-year-old rider of Groupama-FDJ will probably have to continue his search for the ring along the time trial course in Drenthe.
