The Portuguese national champion Rui Costa has sadly abandoned the 2024 Vuelta a Espana after a crash inside the final 10km of stage 5.
After a slow and relaxed day, the pace was very high heading into the finale and when Costa's EF Education-EasyPost teammate Owain Doull slid out heading through the 10km to go banner, Costa simply had nowhere to go and was brought down to the ground himself. Whilst Doull was able to get back on his bike and into the peloton, Costa has abandoned.
