- I agree about the jokes, enough of mocking concerns about thinness too. But this is actually a real comment. Jonas has already almost win the Vuelta when he was not meant to, so he could win this year with little or no support. But Visma apparently want to show full support for Jonas this time. That's not a bad thing.
- Move on guys. These Vingegaar's wife jokes are getting very tired.
- Primoz, do whatever you feel like, you’ve given enough to cycling despite not having been lucky often. Enjoy your last races and stop as soon as you no longer feel it’s worth it. Life is about balance and it doesn’t get better if you ignore that.
- Having been there and cycled around 2 weeks, this altitude thing is overrated. Maybe the climate helps counter things as I got the same feeling running to the top of the very comparable Mauna Kea.
The typical European experience of altitude is affected breathing, difficulty sleeping, very dry air (usually pretty cold too) noticable from 1000-1200m.
Kigali is 1400, almost nothing is below 1000 but roads don’t pass 2200-2300 and I didn’t notice ANY of the typical phenomena at any point.
- Was it him who explained the retirement with the inability to finance his defence? Not sure but it does raise some problems. Obviously a small domestique is not going to have the same ressources as a big name so maybe there should be a discussion about any pro rider being accused getting at least a minimum or % of costs for his defence put up in some way (uci, team, insurance, etc).
But as in so many situations, as soon as you’re accused by authorities, you’ve already lost even if you win or are innocent.
I am all for any anti-doping actions but I do
- The problem is this, all this hate mail and violence isn’t even directed at the victim, it’s just a bunch of thoughtless lost people with vented up frustrations from elsewhere (work, rlationships, lack of self-esteem, politicians, rejection) that need an easy visible target (that can’t easily retaliate) to vent. None of these people would dare to say anything similar in a real-life one to one encounter, in fact, they’d probably go back and boast to others of having met a celebrity, even for me, I can’t deny having found it satisfying to meet e.g. a tdf winner I have openly suspected of doping or a world leader I don’t agree with. But then there are the loonies who get triggered by such talk into doing stupid stuff like physical attacks. And this is where everyone needs to reflect about what their contribution will lead to. There are too many loonies out there and they are getting far too much fodder to resist acting upon things. People need to start making more efforts to see the other side, to compromise, to let it be when you don’t agree. The more we run to hide in extremes, the worse off we will all be.
- What a terrific rider. I will always remember how his apparently certain Tour victory disappeared in the blaze of what was to be the start of Pogacar's otherworldly Tour exploits. Instead of responding with bitterness or rancor or excuses, he showed tremendous grace and real joy in his young rival's accomplishment. He has had too many ugly crashes over the years--the prospect of stopping probably looks like a relief.
- Trine didn't approve the travel!
- You do understand sarcasm?
- The timing of his retirement proved to be most convenient.
