Remco Evenepoel reveals the secret recipe to his time trial success: "When I eat it, I almost never miss the podium"

What does a world time trial champion eat before a time trial? Remco Evenepoel shows it in a new video on his YouTube channel. Before the Chrono des Nations, the Soudal Quick-Step rider devours an unexpected pre-race meal.

"It's still about four hours until the start," says Evenepoel, while making a sandwich. "I have been eating the same thing before a time trial ever since I was a junior. They are some 'pistolékes' with jam, a banana, some honey, half a liter of Fanta and some slices of chicken fillet. It turns out to be a good meal to prepare for a time trial, because when I eat it, I almost never miss the podium."

By the way, Evenepoel doesn't just eat jam on his rolls. "I always want raspberry jam. It's the only jam I want to know. Sometimes the caregiver has to go to the supermarket for raspberry jam the day before a time trial. It is very important," he smiles.

Evenepoel was indeed on the podium in the Chrono des Nations, but he had to bow down to Joshua Tarling. The 19-year-old Briton won by 13 seconds. Evenepoel came second in his last race of 2023.
