- 2021 Tour de France TT, Mathieu van der Poel finished 5th to keep yellow.
Fro those who think he can't sprint, watch the Dutch National Championships 2018...
- RDV exposed himself to ridicule because he's a stupid old geezer. He's eccentric, grumpy, and odd. He gets what he deserves. If he attacks (has opinion) Pogi, MVDP and Remco... he deserves backlash in to his face . Who the f**k does he think he is!!!
- "Tadej Pogacar and Remco Evenepoel have an immense rivalry"
How tf is it a rivalry if the last and only race (not TT) Remco won when Pogacar finished was WC in 2022
- Wout is irrelevant now, I don't know why he's still being mentioned as a winner. Last 1 day WT race he won was E3 in 2023
- Riders today — particularly climbers — are lighter and stronger than they have ever been, largely due to the advances in nutrition and sport science.
- A sub 34 minute 10K by MvDP is respectable, but not as impressive as Tom Dumoulin’s 2:29 marathon.
- This guy probably never noticed that cycling changed - in his time there were no 'real climbers' like we have today. Most of the podiums in his times - no matter if Tour de Suisse or Giro - were occupied by guys like him - 70kg+ of pure mass. Today it is impossible and average mass of climbing winners dropped by 10kg. I claim that MvdP easily would beat this guy on climb if we could have any chance to compare those two side by side.
- Chris Froome won Four Tour de France and he won them clean.
Israel Premier Tech signed him on the strength of that no one put their arm up their back, and they CHOSE to pay him a huge salary.
Chris then suffered a near-death crash that changed his ability forever, much like Egan Bernal, who was also paid a huge sum by INEOS and has never recovered his form due to the terrible injuries he suffered.
Was that his fault any more than Chris Froomes' crash was his, or do people want teams to simply throw riders out when they cannot race any longer, like ex-racing Greyhounds? It would be nice to see great riders being given respect rather than this unpleasant, speculative, childish sniping.
- I do not think we can discuss riders of that era without looking into the doping that was simply accepted back then. Pot Belege was real and widely used, but not widely tested for. So who knows what some of these so-called legends were consuming. However, I am convinced that not one of them would be able to run Pog even a close second nowadays.
- 33:41 is not 33 but not bad for an active cyclist.
If he swims as well, we’re in for a great Ironman result.
