Quick-Step to "focus now on our future goals" after disappointing Tour des Flandres

Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl Team have sustained a difficult classics season, with illness sprouting through the team and harming the team's chances towards one of their main goals of the season. Kasper Asgreen was attempting to defend his title, but also suffered from ill fortune, having the team finish with only 23st place.

“We were active today with Jannik and Zdenek. The guys did a great job there, while I remained in a good position in the group behind, so things looked good for us. Then I had some problems on the Paterberg, but managed to come back thanks to an excellent job of my teammates," Asgreen said at the end of the race.

Despite a strong performance until that point, Quick-Step's race took a turn for the worst when in addition to everything that happened towards the race, Asgreen had a mechanical in one of the worst possible moments: "When Tadej went on the Koppenberg, I tried to follow him but I exploded, and soon after, my chain fell off on the Koppenberg. We focus now on our future goals."

With Paris-Roubaix still ahead the cobbled classics specialists will still have one more opportunity to strike, but competition is fierce and it won't be easy to make up for what has been an unsuccessful classics season. With the Ardennes looming closely, the team will have a different terrain in which they can succeed.
