Alvaro Hodeg has been absent from the peloton since October due to a bad training accident where he was hit by a driver in a car in Colombia, and after months of not being able to walk and several surgeries, he is back on his feet and is eyeing a return to the peloton.
In an Instagram post the Colombian rider shared, he has explained the situation which has kept him out of racing since having been signed for
UAE Team Emirates. "It has been a while that I wanted to tell you something but I hadn't found the right moment to do it. In Demcember I had a bad traffic accident that sadly wrecked my plans of started the season competing with my new team UAE Team Emirates. After over 3 months and 5 surgeries I'm back."
Hodeg continued: "I'm happy because I've started walking and I'm getting closer to returning onto the bike and be back in Europe together with my teammates. With a lot of faith I am waiting for another surgery on the wrist next Tuesday, which will be successful with the help of God."
The Colombian went on to thank members of his family, medical facilities and team staff who have helped him through this this period. It is unclear when Hodeg can return to the peloton, however it is possible to see him back in the peloton by the summer or fall of this year. After turning pro with Quick-Step he's had a couple of successful years as a sprinter where he's racked over a dozen wins, however found himself without opportunities as the team has grown it's sprinter roster.
Hodeg was one of the few yet big transfers from UAE Team Emirates for two seasons, but suffered a serious accident shortly after as he described.
