Primoz Roglic to skip La Fleche Wallone and Liege-Bastogne-Liege following Itzulia horror crash

Still feeling the effects of that brutal Itzulia Basque Country crash, Primoz Roglic has been forced to abandon his plans to compete at La Fleche Wallone and Liege-Bastogne-Liege.

This, according to Het Laatste Nieuws, comes as the Slovenian looks to protect his Maillot Jaune hopes at the Tour de France later this year, by skipping the Ardennes Classics and instead resting, recuperating and then travelling to an altitude training camp with his BORA - hansgrohe team.

Roglic actually won Liege-Bastogne-Liege back in 2020 and if fully fit, would've fancied his chances this time around too, especially since fellow contender, Remco Evenepoel also crashed hard in the same Itzulia Basque Country incident and suffered multiple fractures.

As it is however, both Evenepoel and Roglic will be absent from the monument this time around. Tadej Pogacar and Mathieu van der Poel start as favourites, with BORA - hansgrohe now likely to rely on Aleksandr Vlasov to pull off a good result for the team.
