Primoz Roglic was honoured by the President of Slovenia on Monday with the Golden Order of Merit. He was awarded for his achievements, for successfully representing Slovenia in the global sports arena and for his inspiring character.
“With his story and personality, he has conquered the hearts of Slovenians and became the hero of Slovenian cycling. His story is one of the wishes fulfilled as a result of hard and focused work,” read the statement released by the president’s office.
Interesting enough, he received the award just hours before undergoing shoulder surgery. “Order is order, and Golden Order is even grander,” said Roglic after receiving the award.
Roglic’s surgery was successful and he will be off the bike for at least 6 to 8 weeks before starting his preparation for the next season.“I’ve reached the point where I need to sort this out so I can be stronger and start preparing for new challenges in the new season. I have to respect what they tell me,” concluded Roglic.
