After taking a brilliant
Giro d'Italia victory,
Primoz Roglic celebrated in style at a crazy celebration according to his
Jumbo-Visma teammate
Sam Oomen.
"If you wore a Jumbo-Visma suit, you were half a Slovenian that day," recalls the 27-year-old Dutchman on the Live Slow Ride Fast. "In the end it was a group of six or seven people at the party. Primoz was one of the fighters. And then Primoz is a beer drinker, as long as it is not alcohol-free. 'Because that's not normal, huh?'" Laughs Oomen.
The dramatic nature of Roglic's victory as he took the Maglia Rosa from Geraint Thomas after the decisive stage 20 individual time-trial, meant that Oomen who wasn't even supposed to be part of the team living an emotional rollercoaster as he watched. "Corona kept going around within the team and Jos van Emden was called when we were sitting at the table together. I yelled that I wouldn't go anyway," says Oomen. "On Thursday morning, two days before the start, I received a message that I might have to go to Italy. That was very strange."
"We had a lot of faith in Primoz, but it's in my nature to remain hesitant. He himself said, especially because of everything that happened in the past, even after the time trial that he had to cross the line safely in Rome. Fortunately, the whole story came together, including that the ski jumper was standing on the spot where his chain came off," he continues. "I was in my room at half past four and then I still had to pack my suitcase. And at half past six I was back in the taxi."
