Pharyngitis and mononucleosis preventing wreck Alessandro Covi's spring

Alessandro Covi has encountered some health difficulties, and consequently, he will be absent from the competition, requiring him to modify his plans for the following two weeks.

Despite a good start in Milan-Sanremo, Covi was forced to withdraw from the race due to breathing difficulties and loss of voice that emerged during the midsection of the competition. Following a medical examination, he was advised to forgo his participation in the Flemish classic.

“I will certainly not compete until April 9, then I will do a period of training at high altitude, in the Sierra Nevada, in view of participating in the Giro d'Italia which will start on May 6,” he told Prealpina.

He further revealed, “I have sharp pharyngitis. Also, I have a hangover from mononucleosis that I've been diagnosed with now, but which I contracted in the past few months.”
