Peter Sagan has in the past been incredibly successful in North America, and that includes two wins at the GP de Québec. Although he's past his prime, the Slovakian national champion will be trying to show off some good form and fight for a strong result in the first of two classics.
“Personally, this has been a season a bit different than usual due to being struck with Covid early in the year. I started getting back in form at a later stage than I usually do and I was in shape for the Tour de France," he said in a press release leading up to the race. "I’m feeling well right now. We will see during the upcoming races in the following weeks. I have been training very well after the Tour de France, together with my coach, and the racing action will show where I stand.”
Sagan has had a tricky season, one that seemed relatively back on track after taking a win at the Tour de Suisse. Although it lacked a major result at the Tour de France, his positioning skills earned him four different Top5 places in the sprints, and afterwards he has returned to competition at the BEMER Cyclassics and Bretagne Classic, where he did not have an easy time.
“After the racing weekend in Québec and Montréal. I will head to Australia for the 2022 Road World Championships. Currently, my program for the rest of the season hasn’t been fully decided and it is one of the issues the team and I will discuss," he added. The World Championships won't feature him as a man to consider for the medals, hence this stint in Canada will be very important for the former World Champion to take some strong results into the final month of the season.
“Just like every race I have taken part since becoming a professional rider, my goal is to give my best and achieve the best result possible for me and my team," he concluded.
